Maricela M Simmons, DDS
Owner
Regarded by her patients as a friend, Dr. Simmons is a kind-hearted, caring person with a passion for dentistry. She has lived in North County San Diego since 2001 and practiced dentistry since 1991. In order to provide her patients with the highest level of care, she continues her pursuit of further education and invests in cutting-edge technology for the practice.
Samuel A. Simmons, DDS
Associate Dentist
Dr. Sam graduated from dental school in 2022 and joined his mother, Dr. Maricela Simmons' practice in 2024. Together, he and Dr. Simmons love taking continuing education courses in order to learn new techniques to better serve their patients. Dr. Sam has worked in the office since high school and has grown up with many of the patients, making his connection and dedication to the practice even more special.

"I have more than 20 years of experience in the field of dentistry. I began my career with Dr Simmons in 2013 and have embraced the core values of integrity, transparency, and professionalism. During my career I have obtained many hours of continuing education in areas such as Invisalign, cosmetic dentistry and more in order to help provide excellent care to our patients."

Jen joined Dr. Simmons and her team in November 2025. Her well-rounded background helps her support the team by ensuring daily operations run smoothly and efficiently. She loves being a part of a practice that values excellence, kindness, and genuine connection. She is inspired to work alongside a team that is so committed to creating beautiful outcomes for their patients.
Stephanie Wierenga, RDH
Registered Dental Hygienist
Stephanie has been working in the dental field since she was 16 years old--- starting at the front desk, then assisting the dentist, and eventually earning her Registered Dental hygienist license in 1997. She has been a part of Dr. Simmons' team since 2015. Through her many years of experience, she has developed a passion for preventative care and truly believes that a healthy mouth is the foundation of overall health and well-being. She loves building long-term relationships with her patients and helping them feel comfortable, informed, and confident about their oral health.
When Steph is not at the dental office she teaches Pilates part time and stays busy with her husband, Doug, and their two children. She loves traveling and being outdoors ---camping, walking her dog, and spending time at the beach.
Amber Welker, RDH
Registered Dental Hygienist
Amber has over 10 years of experience in dentistry and a true passion for helping others. She’s known for making her patients feel like part of the family and believes that building genuine relationships is at the heart of great care. Amber enjoys educating patients about the important connection between oral health and overall wellness.

Dedicated to staying current with the latest advances in dental technology, Amber strives to make every visit as comfortable — and even fun — as possible. For her, dental hygiene is more than just cleaning teeth; it’s about creating a personalized, comprehensive plan to help each patient achieve lasting health.

Amber graduated from Concorde Career College in 2016 with her degree in Dental Hygiene. She has extensive training in Invisalign, laser therapy, and other advanced treatments designed to keep your smile healthy and radiant.

Originally from Connecticut (go Pats!), Amber moved to San Diego in 2016 after marrying her college sweetheart. Outside the office, she loves spending time outdoors with their three kids — Miles, Beckham, and Weston — and their two dogs. You’ll often find her at the zoo, exploring new places with her family, or baking up something delicious at home.
Mari Aparicio, RDH
Registered Dental Hygienist
Mari has over 20 years of experience and a bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of Southern California. She is fluent in Spanish and English and is known for her gentle touch and compassionate care. She enjoys helping patients understand the importance of maintaining their oral health. In her spare time, Mari enjoys soending quality time with family and taking long walks on the beach. She feels blessed and excited to work for Dr Simmons and her exceptional team.

"I’ve had a passion for dentistry since 1994. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of specialty practices—Oral Surgery, Implants, Periodontics, Endodontics, and Pediatrics. These experiences have truly shaped my approach to patient care, always prioritizing quality and comfort as an assistant.When I’m not working, you’ll find me outdoors—whether I’m playing softball, enjoying a good camping trip with my spouse and grown children, or catching a baseball game. I’m also a big fan of Zumba, which keeps me active and energized.
In my search for the perfect dental home, it was crucial to find a team that shared my values. That’s when I found Dr. Simmons and Dr. Sam—talk about a jackpot!"
Danielle Murrilo
Registered Dental Assistant, EF
Danielle has been working as an extended function dental assistant for over 12 years. She loves interacting with patients and being able to help others in times of need. Danielle grew up in the LA area and now lives in Oceanside, where she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and trying new restaurants.
